Jiang - Spiderman again

It was last year Cathwel celebrated our 40th anniversary. Back to our memory, during 30th anniversary, we invited the adult kids who left Cathwel after graduation to return to celebrate together. By then, Jiang was still an intern working for a high rise window cleaning company. He asked his boss to borrow the equipment to volunteer to clean the windows for Cathwel building, because it has not been cleaned since 2004 when the building established. His boss was touched and sent another worker to Jiang, so they can work together to wash the exterior wall. Due to the timing, they only completed the front facade, but when the children through the window saw someone hanging from outside, they excited shouted “Spiderman is here!”

Time goes by, last year Jiang contacted me and said: “Auntie, I have my own company now.” I was amazed how he started his own company after 10 years of hard working. Just because Cathwel ran into some other water leakage issue, I mentioned to our CEO Yenchi and Property Manager Li-Hong to refer Jiang’s company.

They fixed the water leakage problem right away, but also discovered more problems and the expense will go higher to fix. Jiang said: “we could finish this job order now but very soon the issue will be back and still needs to resolve.” I asked him, what would you do? He said he will just be honest with his clients, but overall whatever is ok with him. I asked: “Did you mention this to the Property Manager Li-Hong?” He answered: “yes, I did. But I am worry she will not be happy because the expense goes up. “ I replied: “This is your profession. You give us the true diagnosis. Based on our budget we will evaluate what’s best for us. I suggest you don’t need to worry about our situation, you need to do the best for your company, providing good quality workmanship. We will be happy to see you be successful and we can continue to work together.”
Therefore later we frequent saw Jiang and his workers in and out Jonah House. One day, I invited them to eat lunch together. I realized some of them just out of high school very young, and some of them were Jiang’s middle school friends. I shared how Jiang was “challenged” when he lived in Jonah House. Now he turns away to provide any opportunity to those who needed help. He said: “Just a job but it’s tough and risky. As long as he is willing to learn, we will work together.” I said: “You secretly learned from us!” He had an awkward smile! just sighed!
Now every time when I enter the building, nice and bright wall, floor and through the glass to see the beautiful sky and trees, those young men hanged from the rope under the sun and rain came in my mind. It’s all worthy!
