Lumen- December 2023

Greetings from Cathwel

After four years of the pandemic, in 2023, we joyfully resumed in-person interactions with friends as normal.

Many families returned to Taiwan this year. What's particularly heartening is that several adoptees have become or are preparing to, bringing joy, and touching moments to us.
We have persistently learned and reflected on challenges. For instance, both domestic and international entities prioritize children's rights, yet the adoption procedure has been significantly prolonged.

The labor laws in Taiwan concerning labor rights do not favor the continuity needed for childcare in Jonah house. The trend of declining birth rates has also presented recruitment challenges for us. Nevertheless, children serve as our teachers, leading us to extract lessons from experiences that didn’t go as plan. Their vulnerability and courage contiunally empower us.

When Cathwel was established as a foundation in 1984, Sr. Rosa chose Isaiah 42:3-4 as our core belief: "A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. He will faithfully bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth."

Over these years, we are grateful for God's companionship, witnessing countless moments of broken hearts, and receiving many incredible miracles and graces.

As we approach 2024, Cathwel turns 40! We celebrate with joy and commit to continually renew and improve!

Thanks to all friends for supporting us. We appreciate your generosity and companionship on this journey.

Merry Christmas and happy new year!

Yenchi Ting

Dear friends,

I'm 83 years old, and it marks my 40th year of service at the Cathwel !

Facing life’s inconveniences in old age isn't exactly fun, but being able to share my struggles with "aging" with the beloved Cathwel makes me feel very happy!

My current role is to pray for everyone. Let’s embrace the spirit of loving others, just as Jesus did.

Sr. Rosa
