About Roots-Finding Trip

Cathwel Service has started the Roots-Finding Trip since 2006, which is a group trip for the adoptees between 18 and 25 years old. The trip includes activities or sightseeing to explore the culture of Taiwan, volunteering and reunion with birth family as well. It goes every year in principle.

Outline

  1. Trip will take place during July-August. Please arrive before the welcome meeting.

  2. Event includes a cultural fieldtrip around Taiwan, volunteer work at Jonah House and reunion.

  3. Cathwel Service provides accommodation and board. Participants are responsible for the airfare and personal expenses.

  4. Airport transportation can be arranged.

  5. Anyone who wishes to meet his/her birth family, please specify in the application form.

Itinerary

  1. Activities are organized for whole group. Members are not supposed to act individually out of free time. In case of sickness or force majeure, please inform the staff responsible for the trip.

  2. There will be volunteering time to accompany the younger children at Jonah House. 

  3. Reunion meetings with birth families are going to be set on weekend as possible as we can. If it takes time overlapping any activity, social workers will coordinate with the members in advance.

Food

  1. Lunch and dinner are served at Jonah House on weekday, which are mainly Taiwanese food. Vegetarians are supposed to specify in advance.

  2. Kitchen and refrigerator are equipped in the dormitory. It is convenient to buy food at nearby stores or supermarket. 

  3. Restaurants for outgoing activities will be arranged.

Dormitory

  1. The dormitory for Roots-Finding group is located in the same building where children and unwed mothers live in. For safety and privacy of the other residents, members should follow the dorm rules.

  2. Each room equips with a bunk bed, bathroom and air conditioner.

  3. In addition to private space, members are supposed to maintain the common area of the dorm, including living room, kitchen and balcony. It is the most important to restore the dorm to its original state by leaving.
